The KM3NeT Collaboration is glad to announce a first edition of a masterclass in 2026. This will be a unique opportunity for high-school students to engage in a life-changing experience working for one day as a researcher probing the mysteries of our universe.
The students will be welcomed at selected institutes throughout the world, where they will dive into the fascinating world of elementary particles, they will learn about the properties of the most bizarre particles that we know, the neutrinos, and they will discover how, from its deep-sea location, KM3NeT carries on the ambition to determine the most fundamental properties of these elusive particles and to explore the largest scales of the cosmos. They will then be challenged to perform a data analysis in an attempt to identify neutrinos coming from selected astrophysical sources and will finally connect to an international videoconference to present their results and compare them to those from students in other parts of the world.
The first edition of the masterclass took place in March 2026 and included various locations in Italy (Bari, Bologna, Catania, Genova, Salerno), Georgia (Tbilisi) and Spain (Valencia). New events are being planned.
Are you interested to participate? In preparation to that, why don’t you start by taking a look at the KM3NeT science mission?
