Set up a Legal Entity for the KM3NeT Research Infrastructure
The objective of the INFRADEV2 second work package is to set up a Legal Entity for the KM3NeT Research Infrastructure.
In the past years, and especially within the KM3NeT-INFRADEV first project, significant progress has been achieved regarding the creation of such an entity. The primary effort to form an ERIC resulted in draft statutes and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for computing, seafloor and onshore facilities. This process also allowed the partners to agree on the management of a shared infrastructure, including the annual budget framework for operation. However, the constitution of an ERIC could not be achieved, pushing the partners to seek another legal form in which the funding agencies of KM3NeT could participate directly.
Based on the previous efforts done by the Collaboration, WP2 will foster the exchanges between partners on legal matters, with the help of legal consultants, in order to identify the most suitable legal entity. The choice will be supported by an analysis of legal options, the review of the existing drafts and an update of the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to ensure the success of the infrastructure and its reliability towards its partners.
Regarding the singularity of these researches, WP2 deliverables are not meant to be public. However, communication and dissemination materials will be available for public outcomes and results that could be transferred to other research infrastructure or experiment.
