Congratulations, Francis Halzen!

7 October 2026 – The KM3NeT Collaboration sends its warmest congratulations to Dr. Francis Halzen on being awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics for his “decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the ground breaking discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin”.

Francis’ vision to transform the ice of the South Pole into a giant telescope to investigate the universe has paved the way to neutrino astronomy.

This prestigious recognition is a well-deserved tribute to Francis’ extraordinary scientific leadership and decades of dedication. At the same time it is also a recognition of the importance of exploring the cosmos with neutrinos, a scientific mission shared by IceCube, KM3NeT and several other projects around the world.

From the ice of Antarctica to the depths of the Mediterranean Sea, we look forward to continuing this exploration together.
