KM3NeT at the European Researchers’ Night 2025

1 October 2025 – It is that time of the year that we put the spotlights on our research in festive atmospheres.

Last Friday many KM3NeT groups participated in the “European Researchers’ Night”. This is an annual Europe-wide event held on the last Friday of September. It aims to bring the public closer to science and research through various activities like exhibitions, experiments and interactive events.

It is fun to show the nuts and bolts of the KM3NeT detectors. It is rewarding to share with young and old our excitement of detecting elusive neutrinos with huge detectors in the dark abyss of the deep sea. It is awesome to explain why our telescopes ‘look’ downwards to see particles that travelled through the Earth before arriving at our detectors.

Of course, this year the detection of our record-breaking neutrino KM3-230213A was a hot topic.

Next Saturday, 4 October, the KM3NeT groups in the Netherlands will participate in the nation-wide ‘Science Weekend’, that is held annually during the first weekend of October.

Indeed, it is that exiting time of the year of engaging with the general public, promoting science research and encouraging the youngsters to pursue a scientific career.
