9 September 2025 – This news item has been prepared to illustrate a simple proposal which can help us to streamline the preparation of the next news items for our web-site.
As you can see, the main (only!) difference in the layout w.r.t. the news items published so far is that the text is signed by the author at the end.
This change however has important implications:
- by giving a little bit of reward, in terms of visibility, to the authors, it may help to encourage action!
- the signing of a news item, though, is also a way to recognize responsibility of what is written – e.g.: a small text error remianing in the text is in first place a responsibility of the authors and only in second place of KM3NeT
- the fact that the text is signed by a specific author or set of authors allows them to write in their own style (more or less emphatic, etc.), though maintaining shared guidelines
- the preparation process can be simplified a lot: instead of having each OC member commenting on the comments of all others in order to reach collegial decisions, the author could collect all feedback and build on it – the OC should check that what is written is correct, but style choices should be left to the author to decide
A good step forward in my opinion!
