The current KM3NeT Collaboration is not a legal entity. For an research infrastructure of the size and complexity of KM3NeT 2.0 a legal is required. The preferred implementation is that of an ERIC, a European Research Infrastructure Consortium. For this, research ministries of countries involved in KM3NeT will sign the contract that comprise the liability and statutes of the research infrastructuren. The initial founders of the KM3NeT ERIC include France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Germany and the Netherlands. After the necessary input has been gathered, the next step will be to approach other countries.

In due time, project outputs will be published, comprising: “Report providing the legal entity’s legal documents and statutes”, “Minutes of meetings with EC and Dutch ministry” and “ERIC statutes”.
